On July 1st, 1867, three Northern American British colonies unified into one confederation that makes up Canada today. This day, otherwise known as Dominion Day, has now become a statutory holiday that Canadians celebrate each year to commemorate the anniversary of confederation. It is celebrated widely with firework displays, concerts, barbeques, parades, and festivals.
